Residents of Sydenham gathered along Randles Road on Monday morning to protest against the alleged establishment of a student accommodation facility in the area.
The picket was led by Ward 31 councillor Remona McKenzie and members of the ward committee, who called on the eThekwini Municipality to ensure that all legal processes and public participation requirements are followed before approving student accommodation developments in residential communities.
Residents expressed concerns about the potential impact such a development could have on the neighbourhood and urged the municipality to engage affected communities before any approvals are granted.
The demonstration remained peaceful as residents voiced their concerns and called for greater transparency in the approval process.
