Port Shepstone community activist, Yashina Singh has her eyes set on the Mrs Royal International Pageant crown as she recently advanced to the top 8 of the contest currently taking place at the Hilton Sandton Hotel.

The 55-year-old former Milpark Business School student said she has never participated in a beauty pageant in her life. “I’ve never done modelling before however the Mrs/Ms Royal International requires that we present ourselves at an International level of pageantry. I feel humbled and proud as I’m not only representing my life’s journey but stand for every women that has been through trials, tribulations and grief. The nomination is testimony that God works in the very depths and is interested in everything we do and say,” she said.

Singh said if she wins the pageant, she will use the title as a platform to inspire hope for the disadvantages communities in Port Shepstone. “Truth be told being involved in the community not only helps others but has a great fulfilment for me. While engaging in community work I can sense, feel and see the people flourish. Activism combats hopelessness, fear, senselessness and contributes to building individuals through the spirit of Ubuntu.

“There is always hope when we stand together. I feel that being an activist places me in a position to lead and where my contribution has a positive ripple effect on all those around me. I believe that giving back is an essential lifestyle for personal health and wellness,” said Singh.

She said her plans involve working with women and children in a capacity of leadership and empowerment. “A torch bearer lighting the way for others who are still finding their path, describes how I see myself in the future,” said Singh.

The winner of this pageant will be announced on Thursday, 3 November and the finalist will represent South Africa in Miama, United States.
