Six-year-old boy drowns in Umbilo pool

A six-year-old boy tragically drowned in the Umbilo area of Durban on Monday evening.
ALS Paramedics said they were alerted to a missing child at around 6pm and were placed on standby as patrollers and security officials searched the area.

Garrith Jamieson of ALS Paramedics said “At approximately 8:35pm, the child was found in a residential swimming pool in Brazilia Place. He was pulled from the water and paramedics were immediately dispatched to assist.”

Jamieson confirmed that the boy had suffered fatal injuries and was declared dead at the scene.

The area was cordoned off and handed over to the South African Police Service. The exact circumstances surrounding the drowning remain unclear, and SAPS have launched an investigation.
