Songs of jubilation and ululation recently replaced the sounds of the school bell at Mthubi Primary School, on the outskirts of Inanda, as the educational centre proudly celebrated 60 years of educational excellence and community engagement on Thursday, 12 September.
Since opening its doors in 1964, the school has been dedicated to fostering a supportive environment where learners can thrive academically and personally. Ms Malungi Ndaba, the school principal, said the anniversary celebration which also incorporated the school’s academic excellence was a resounding success.

“The celebration consisted of various activities by our learners and we had guests from various departments including the ward councillor of Ward 2, Makhosini Luthuli, former ward councillor, Mhluhlube Mkhize, Department of Environmental Health, Department of Health, SAPS, Department of Education and Department of Social Development. We were also honoured to have the chief of the area, Thandizwe Gala, and all leaders under his traditional leadership, grace our event and celebrate with us this significant milestone,” said Ms Ndaba.
She thanked generous sponsors who ensured that this event was a great success. “I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who contributed to this celebration including the grandson of the late Mr John Langalibalele Dube, from Ohlange Heritage. Our guests and speakers were gifted with special gifts as a token of appreciation for making the time to come and celebrate with us. Four sheep were also given to the district director, area chief, the Dlamini family who donated the site when the school was built in the area of KwaVutha Emaphephetheni, Inanda, and the fourth sheep was gifted to the union of Sadtu under the branch of Thousand Hills.”
“The sheep was sponsored by Mr Simphiwe Gwala, who is a stock seller in the area. We also slaughtered a cow as part of the celebrations, which was donated by Mr Chofu from the community. A non-profit organisation, Mhluhlube Foundation under the former ward councillor, Mr M Mkhize, members of the community, and the Dube family who provided catering were some of our biggest sponsors and supporters who ensured that the event was a resounding success a memorable one indeed.
“This celebration is not just about our history, it’s about our shared commitment to providing the best for our learners. As our school embarks on its next chapter, it remains committed to its mission of fostering academic excellence, personal growth, and community service, ensuring that the next generation continues to thrive,” added Ndaba.
