As the schools close for a short term break on Friday, the message from Brighton Beach SAPS was for road-users to combat road fatalities during the holiday period by being responsible.
A collaboration by members of the Brighton Beach Detective Services, the station’s liquor officer, and corporate communications component saw 500 Arrive Alive brochures being distributed at the Bluff Towers Mall, on Thursday. The brochure, researched and developed by Captain L.T. Le Roux, distributed during the campaign explains a wide range of road safety topics which included the use of seat belts and child restraints, prohibition on the use of mobile devices when driving, how to be a responsible pedestrian and concerns relating to the use of alcohol and banned substances when operating a motor vehicle. “Upon engaging shoppers, they were also encouraged to report unsafe vehicles, reckless and negligent driver behaviour, including fraud and corruption issues related to the traffic sphere. Through partnering with internal and external role players, the Brighton Beach Management ensured that the strategic objectives of the organisation were achieved. A pro-active campaign was presented that had educational value in that it empowered road-users while creating awareness road safety.”
