In a concerted effort to provide financial relief to the community, Ward 50 residents were recently invited to participate in the Rates Rebate Assistance Programme. The initiative, aimed at ensuring qualifying households benefit from the municipal relief provided by the eThekwini Municipality, took place on Wednesday, 11 March, at the Upper Room Church Hall in Woodview.
The programme saw a significant turnout, with hundreds of residents receiving direct assistance with their applications. Ward 50 councillor Lyndal Singh expressed her gratitude to the church leadership for providing the venue and thanked the SAPS officials in attendance. The presence of the police was particularly valuable, as they assisted with the commissioning of residents’ documents on-site, allowing many attendees to avoid the lengthy queues typically experienced at police stations.

Singh also highlighted the contribution of local government staff. Singh said: “I would also like to thank the officials from the Sizakala Centre who came through to Ward 50 to assist residents directly with their applications and queries. Your presence made the process far more efficient and accessible for our community.”
The councillor thanked the residents for making use of the opportunity, noting that initiatives of this nature are vital for bringing essential municipal services directly into the heart of the community. By decentralising these services, the municipality ensures that support reaches those who need it most in a dignified and efficient manner.
A resident, who wished to remain anonymous, praised the coordination of the event, stating that the programme was well-organised and handled with a high level of professionalism. The resident noted that the process was easy and efficient, allowing community members to resolve their queries with dignity.
