Members of the public need to safeguard themselves against falling prey to criminals who are prowling in the community.
This came as a warning from Scottburgh SAPS communications officer, Captain Adam Francis, who made an appeal to the public not to engage in any conversation with strangers. He said the strangers are very convincing and are unscrupulous with intention to rob and steal.
“Reports received from victims include the modus operandi of promising jobs and then robbing them of cash, valuables and in some cases they are taken to the ATM to withdraw money. Don’t be fooled by strangers when they pick up packets and envelopes from the street and then encourage you to follow them to share the ‘found’ money. Do not pay for motor vehicles and items that you never view. Be cautious about so called ‘bargains’.”
Capt Francis said it was also imperative not to provide or confirm your name, identity number and banking details to anyone on the phone.
