Two impoverished households who previously featured in The Ladysmith Herald recently received much-needed wheelchairs as well as monitoring by members of TB HIV Care.
“I have no words,” said Councillor Bhehkowakhe Majola after wheelchairs were donated by the EasyPay Ladysmith Branch. EasyPay Acting Brand Manager, Ashimka Boodhoo, said that when she first saw the story on the front page she knew that she and her team had to take action. “Despite the unrest, we had to do something as soon as possible,” said Boodhoo. The two wheelchairs and blankets were donated and with the assistance of TB HIV Care, both families will also be monitored. “We will assist the teenage girls with registration for our teen programmes,” said TB HIV Care auxiliary worker, Samukelisiwe Sithole. Cllr Majola said he is extremely happy and doesn’t have any words for the assistance received from members of the community. Muntu Thabebe, 89, clearly expressed her gratitude by asking her family members to push her around the yard. “This is the first time in a very long time that I have seen the yard and what a joy it is to be out.” Thirteen-year-old Qaphelani Sithole, who cannot speak or walk due to severe disability, is the other recipient of a wheelchair. He happily sat outside in his new wheelchair and watched the children play. “We are planning to take Qaphelani all over the place,” said his grateful family members.
