Proudly representing Africa on the international stage, Phoenix’s Suraksha Ramchunder was crowned Third Runner-Up at the Miss Face of the Universe International pageant in Yangon, Myanmar, from July 25 to 31.
Ramchunder competed under the title of Miss Face of the Universe Africa, showcasing African culture and values alongside contestants from around the world. Her achievement was further recognised when she received the Miss Congeniality Award for her kindness and support towards fellow contestants.
Reflecting on her experience, Ramchunder said the journey represented more than the distance travelled. “Every kilometre travelled represented not only physical distance but also the dreams, hopes and aspirations of countless young Africans who looked to me as a source of inspiration. I hope my journey demonstrates that when passion meets perseverance, dreams can become reality,” she said.

As an educator and community advocate, Ramchunder said she is passionate about using education to empower young people and encourage them to pursue their goals despite the challenges they may face. “I am passionate about uplifting young individuals through education, believing that knowledge is one of the most powerful tools for creating positive change,” she said.
A key part of her advocacy is supporting women and raising awareness about gender-based violence (GBV). “Every woman deserves to live in a safe environment free from abuse, discrimination and fear. Through community engagement, awareness campaigns and educational initiatives, I aim to raise my voice for women who may not have the opportunity to be heard.”
Ramchunder said she also hopes to inspire young girls to believe in their potential regardless of their backgrounds or circumstances. “Through hard work, determination, education and self-belief, they can achieve extraordinary things and make a lasting impact on the world,” she said.
She thanked Mrs Supranational Tourism Queen Worldwide and National Director Lee-Ann Naidoo for giving her the opportunity to represent Africa on the global stage.
