Kim Bagshaw autographs her first book

Author Kim Bagshaw from Pennington has launched her debut book titled ‘William’, which is based on a vampire character that she envisioned during the darkest times of her life.

The William book launch was held at the David Landau Hall, Asherville, on Wednesday, 1 December. Addressing the guests in attendance, Bagshaw said many may associate vampires with danger and fear, however, William is different.

“The character William is a vampire who is not afraid of garlic, different from myths we hear about vampires. It also delves deeper into the secret lives of vampires and the difficulties they face trying to live with humans, keeping their identity secret.
The book entails all genres, love, action, fiction and fact. The picture on the cover shows the exact character I dreamt of and was designed in 2014 while writing the book which I completed in 2015.”

She said having written the book and saving it in her flash drive for almost eight years, launching it makes her feel honoured that Multi Marketing Publishers ensured that it was published in less than a year of editing. The over-600-page-turner features local scenes making it more relatable to South African readers.

“The book is for anyone who loves reading, for the readers to find the same effect William had on me. It is was written with the purpose to divert one’s thoughts on what is happening around them in the world, taking the mind away to a different space just like a scene in a movie,” said Bagshaw.

The South Coast author said she is already working on a second book for the series which will be about a different character, deeper and darker than William. She hopes to continue to the third and eventually turn it into a movie or series.

Bagshaw said when writing the book she used all her senses and was deeply connected to the character which made the process easier and more enjoyable. “The characters inspired me to continue and to never give up.”

She said she hopes the book inspires other writers to put everything to paper, to live in their stories and tell them to the world. William can be purchased online and at books stores as it will be on the shelves at the beginning of 2022.
