With a number of beaches in the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast flying the Blue Flag high and the festive season well and truly underway, visitors and tourists alike have been promised a safe and unforgettable summer by the Ugu South Coast Tourism (USCT) board.

Taking a leaf out of the tourism book for the city of Durban, Nethezeka Tourist Transport and Projects have brought the ever-popular rickshaw ride down to the South Coast. Launched at Margate Beach, under the Ray Nkonyeni Local Municipality, the pilot phase of the rickshaw ride will run throughout the summer holiday season.

Tourism monitors ready to jump into action

The CEO of USCT, Phelisa Mangcu, said the region has more to offer as she also confirmed the kick-start of the Tourism Monitors Programme “to enhance visitor safety and experience”. Mangcu said the programme, organised by the National Department of Tourism (NDT) in partnership with AGB Group, will see monitors being trained to patrol beaches, report crimes and provide tourists with useful information.

“These are some of our many development programme initiatives that seek to expand the tourism benefits to all sectors of society. We encourage visitors to take advantage of the incredible rickshaw ride experience.”

The monitors will be deployed to Margate Beach, St Michael’s Beach, Hibberdene Beach and Scottburgh Beach throughout the festive season. To keep up to date with the festivities and upcoming USCT programme, follow them on social media via Facebook and Twitter or visit www.visitkznsouthcoast.co.za.
