An inquest docket is being investigated and no arrests have been made after a bullet-riddled body of a man was found slumped on the passenger seat of an alleged e-hailing vehicle, on the morning of Friday, 24 June 2022.
Amanzimtoti SAPS communications officer, Captain Charlene Van Der Spuy said: “On 24 June 2022 at 07:00, a breakdown driver noticed a silver VW Polo sedan parked in front of DSW on Tecoma Road in St Winifreds. It appeared that there was a person sleeping in the passenger seat. The vehicle was parked facing the R603 and blocking the flow of traffic.
Cpt Van Der Spuy added that the breakdown driver stopped next to the vehicle and noticed a male slumped on the seat covered in blood. “It appeared the passenger was deceased. The breakdown driver alerted the police who upon arrival on the scene noticed a bullet hole on the back of the vehicle. Whilst on the scene, further information was received that the same vehicle was involved in a shooting incident with Prasa members in the Umkomaas area. It was also confirmed that the vehicle was operating as an Uber and not reported stolen. With further investigation, a large quantity of railway electrical cable was discovered in the boot. The deceased was an unknown male +/- 24 years who sustained several gunshot wounds to his lower body,” added Cpt Van Der Spuy.
Emer-G-Med paramedics together with ET Rapid Response responded to Tecoma Road where paramedics declared the passenger deceased.
