Twenty-three year old, Mageshni Naidoo, is hoping to make her dreams a reality when she takes to the stage at the International Modelling and Talent Association (IMTA) Convention in New York, next year.

The Parkgate resident, who is a practicing modern Indian dancer, was selected after her stunning performance at the IMTA nationals, which took place in Gauteng on 1 October. The passionate young woman had participated in the IMTA Durban regional auditions, in April, where she qualified for the nationals. Naidoo, whose love for performing arts began at the young age of 10 after attending speech and drama lessons, said she is reignited whenever she takes the platform. “My career gained momentum five years ago and it has always been my dream to act, dance and model on local and international platforms. I have trained for many years, weeks and hours and sacrificed a lot for my performing arts career,” said Naidoo.

Following the successful national event, Naidoo is seeing her dreams of performing internationally starting to take shape as she prepares for the convention, which will be held in June 2023. “The IMTA Convention will serve as a catalyst for jump starting international training and careers in the performing arts for actors, models, dancers and singers from all around the world. To attend the workshops and convention and having this opportunity would be the most amazing experience for me.  Acting, dancing and modelling isn’t just a hobby, it’s part of my future and I would make this opportunity really count,” said Naidoo.

She said the opportunity to perform with international choreographers and in front of adjudicators is the next step in her performing arts path.  “The knowledge and exposure at the conference will assist me to return home and share these lessons and experiences with my local community and budding artists and validates ‘never give up on your dreams’,” said Govender. She added that with this amazing new journey comes worry as the convention participation package is a vast amount and is hoping that the community can come to her aid to make her dream a reality.

“My parents and family will be helping, and I will also be working extremely hard to earn whatever amount I can, but I am still, however, going to fall short.  I really pray and hope that my community and surrounding communities can assist me through donations and see that this opportunity is truly life changing for me. Every Rand counts and is one step closer to getting me to the USA. Your kind support with a donation of any amount will be appreciated. Please help me make my dream a reality and thank you from the bottom of my heart,” added Govender.
