Tragedy struck on the N2 in Albersville recently, where one occupant was killed, one seriously injured and a third occupant sustained minor injuries when a bakkie and car collided head-on.
KwaZulu Private Ambulance (KPA) responded to the scene and upon arrival they found that a car and bakkie had been in a head-on collision. Spokesperson for KPA, Craig Botha, said that according to witnesses the car had been traveling in the wrong direction on the freeway. “Paramedics quickly assessed the scene and found that one patient sustained serious injuries, a second patient sustained minor injuries. Sadly, a third occupant sustained fatal injuries and succumbed to their injuries before emergency services arrived. The patients were treated on-scene before being transported to hospital for further treatment,” Botha added. In a separate incident, KPA responded to the N2, Merlewood, for reports of a collision on Wednesday where a vehicle and bakkie had collided. “Paramedics quickly assessed the scene and found that three patients sustained injuries ranging from minor to serious. The patients were treated on-scene before being transported to hospital for further treatment,” said Botha.
Meanwhile, a truck accident left one occupant seriously injured while a second occupant was fortunate to escape with minor injuries when a truck driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree. Botha said emergency services found upon arrival that one patient sustained serious injuries and was trapped in the truck. “A second patient sustained minor injuries. Together with Ray Nkonyeni Fire and Rescue Services, paramedics stabilised the patients and used specialised rescue tools to remove the trapped patient. The patients were transported to hospital for further treatment,” he added.
