A vehicle occupant is fighting for his life in hospital while the driver and a second passenger also sustained serious injuries following a single-vehicle crash along uMhlanga Rocks Drive in the vicinity of Ashley Crescent during the early hours of Sunday morning.
The patient’s sister has since called on members of the community to refrain from spreading false information that her brother has died.
The family shared on social media that the injured young man is in ICU.
“Someone has been spreading rumours that he has passed on. Please can I ask that person to stop these lies. The family is already traumatised and we don’t need to hear these negative stories. All we need is prayers and support for my brother’s speedy recovery,” the concerned sister added.
Spokesperson for KZNVIP, Gareth Naidoo, said: “Emergency services from KZN VIP Medical and Rescue responded to the scene after receiving reports of the collision.
“Upon arrival, paramedics were met with a light motor vehicle that had sustained extensive damage, with three occupants suffering serious injuries.
“One patient was found partially entrapped within the wreckage. KZN VIP medics immediately initiated advanced life support treatment while working to safely extricate the patient from the vehicle.
“All three patients were stabilised on scene before being transported to nearby medical facilities for further medical assessment and treatment. One patient remains in a critical condition,” added Naidoo.
He said the exact circumstances leading up to the crash cannot be confirmed at this stage and remain subject to further investigation by the relevant authorities.
All emergency services were in attendance.
