The official unveiling of the uMhlanga Women’s Association’s (UWA) Community Kitchen in Saxony Ilala Ridge called for an additional celebration after it was announced that the non-profit organisation (NPO) will be partnering with Knorr to help provide nutritious food to struggling communities.
Knorr has committed to donating R50 000 monthly to the UWA which will aid them to deliver over 400 delicious and nutritious meals daily to the frail, elderly and those who cannot leave their homes to get food. As the organisation depends solely on donations from sponsors, the founder and chairperson Praneetha Aniruth hopes that this commitment by Knorr will go a long way in encouraging other brands to come onboard with the initiative.
She said: “We appreciate the financial commitment by Knorr in supporting our initiative, this will assist us to feed more people in the areas where we operate which are – Phoenix, Verulam, Tongaat, Mount Moriah, Ottawa and Shakaskraal. As an NPO we are always in need of such partnerships especially with food brands as they have excess to products that we use when preparing these meals.”
Marketing manager at Knorr, Nicole Harris said: “Knorr is on a mission to reinvent food for humanity in three ways, champion dietary diversity, more plant-based meals and more sustainable ways to grow food. This partnership with the uMhlanga Women’s Association resonates with our aim of ensuring that our communities have access to sustainable and nutritious foods.”
She added: “Through this partnership with UWA we will also aim to drive our narrative around the importance of adapting better eating habits.”
