The leaders of tomorrow were given an opportunity to step forward recently, as 84 pupils from Inanda and Ekuthuleni Primary schools took part in a Leadership Development Day aimed at building confidence, teamwork and a stronger sense of purpose.
Hosted at Northwood Boys, the Leadership Development Day focused on personal responsibility, teamwork and leadership through a combination of physical and cognitive activities.
The programme was supported by The Domino Foundation’s Life Skills Youth Workers and facilitated by Edge Schools. It was designed to encourage pupils to recognise their potential and understand how positive leadership can influence the communities around them.
Lutho Ngubeza, co-ordinator for Edge Schools, said effective leadership could have a meaningful impact within schools and beyond.
“Good leadership has the power to transform communities like schools, and the Development Day is designed to inspire individuals to maximise their potential and then use it to contribute to the development of their community and beyond,” Ngubeza said.
Beyond the activities themselves, the programme also gave pupils an opportunity to reflect on the values, discipline and choices that shape their futures.

Domino Foundation Youth Worker Wandile Ntsimbi said their work regularly places them alongside pupils in both group and individual settings, where they help young people establish sustainable values and goals.
“The Development Day took them away from their familiar environment and challenged them about laying good foundations to become future leaders unhampered by negativity in their pasts,” Ntsimbi said.
The day ultimately served as more than a leadership exercise, giving pupils the space to test themselves, work alongside others and consider the kind of influence they hope to have in their schools and communities.
