The Alfred Duma Local Municipality marked a milestone for the Ward 30 community on 12 February, with the official handover of the newly constructed Dalikosini Pedestrian Bridge. Mayor Zama Sibisi, accompanied by Induna Sithole and municipal officials and councilors, visited the area to officiate the ceremony and meet with residents.

In his address, Sibisi praised the community for its unity and commended the ward councillor for being a dedicated leader who prioritises the needs of the people. “This bridge addresses a critical community need,” he said, noting that children and other residents had previously faced difficulties travelling safely to and from school during adverse weather conditions.

Sibisi said that the bridge forms part of the municipality’s commitment to service delivery and infrastructure development across all wards. He also expressed gratitude to the ward councillor for consistently engaging with residents and addressing their concerns.

Sibisi encouraged the community to prioritise safety when using the bridge, saying that it would “significantly improve” accessibility for learners and other residents. He further announced that construction on Mnangeni Road is scheduled to begin later this year, reinforcing the municipality’s dedication to enhancing local infrastructure.

He urged residents, particularly women, to establish community gardens to promote self-help and self-reliance. He assured them that the municipality would provide fencing materials and seeds to support these initiatives. Sibisi highlighted ongoing municipal projects, including the construction of access roads to improve connectivity and mobility within local communities. He urged residents to care for their infrastructure and to work together to preserve the developments brought to their communities, ensuring lasting benefits for all.
