There was a flurry of activity on Gadwal Road in Merebank where a thief was apprehended by alert and active residents.
The alarm was raised about the neighbourhood intruder and immediately residents sprang into action. PT Alarms spokesperson, Dhevan Govindasamy, said the apprehended male had gained entry into a yard and stole a box of items. “Residents were alerted to the crime and cornered the suspect. PT Alarms Response and Tactical units were quickly on-site and restrained the suspect until police arrived. The resident estimates the goods in the box have an estimated worth of about R4 500.”
Govindasamy said the suspect informed the PT officers that he steals and sells stuff for a quick whoonga fix. “The arrested suspect confessed that he served an 11- year sentence for house robbery in the Toti area,” he added. Police arrived on-scene and the suspect was handed over to the SAPS.
