SAPS Mpumalanga is urgently appealing to the community for any information on the whereabouts of three suspects who fled while being transported to court after they were arrested for an alleged business robbery.
“Police were transporting four suspects on Monday, 19 April when a scuffle broke out and the four suspects then managed to escape. A manhunt was immediately launched thereafter,” said Colonel Mdhuli. While desperately searching for the suspects, information was received that one of the suspects, Welcome Mncube was seen in a bush near the court house, police then followed the lead and managed to re-arrest the suspect.
“He then tried to grab the police officer’s service pistol while being arrested, the firearm then went off hitting the suspect. The suspect was then taken to hospital and is currently under police guard. Two police officers sustained injuries during the scuffle and are recovering in hospital,” said Colonel Mdhuli.
The other three suspects remain on the run, Jima Dube, Sandile Gasa and Emmanuel Sibanda. Police are urging the community not to approach them as they are considered to be dangerous but rather notify the police regarding their whereabouts. Members of the community are requested to kindly contact the Volksrust police on 017-735-9913 or crime stop on 08600-10111.
