Five-year-old Bailey Shayn Cordier is celebrating her freedom today as she is able to go to school and play with her friends.
South Africa celebrates Freedom Day to mark the liberation of our country and its people from a long period of apartheid. 27 April commemorates the day when the first democratic election was held in South Africa in 1994. Apartheid officially began in 1948 but colonialism and oppression of the African majority had plagued the country since 1652.
