A Cato Manor man was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for murder and 5 years for attempted murder which he committed on 29 September 2018.

Thirty-nine-year-old, Fanana Wiseman Sibiya will serve his sentence concurrently at the Westville Correctional Services. The conviction was secured by Cato Manor SAPS Warrant Officer Detective M. Soobromanie at the Durban Magistrates Court recently. Cato Manor SAPS communications officer, Captain C.A Sibiya said Fanana shot dead his girlfriend, Cebile Zwane, 36 and also shot her friend, Nonhlanhla Peters following a ‘heated’ altercation. He also said that the altercation was over the deceased’s whereabouts, as the boyfriend had been possessive.

“His girlfriend died on scene, while her friend survived and was transported to hospital,” said Capt Sibiya. Capt Sibiya added that this sentence serves as a warning to perpetrators of crime that police will lock them up and they will do time in prison. “We have zero tolerance against crime, especially crimes against women. We applaud our hard working detectives for always going the extra mile to make arrests and secure good convictions,” said Capt Sibiya.
