A 54-year-old man was arrested after he was found in possession of drugs with the estimated value of R260 000 in Musgrave on Thursday, 5 August.
Police Spokesperson, Colonel Thembeka Mbele, said the suspect was found in possession of 469 grams of cocaine powder, 10 large full moons of cocaine and 300 pieces of rock cocaine. Col Mbele said the arrest comes after the Provincial Drug and Firearm Unit conducted an investigation concerning a suspect that was distributing drugs in the Durban metro area. “The target was identified at a premises in the Musgrave area. A take-down operation was conducted and the suspect was found packaging drugs,” she said. Col Mbele added that the use and abuse of drugs has left many families with scars. “Drug abuse can cause serious harm to our health, it contributes to serious and violent crimes being committed. We once again are urging citizens to continue to work hand-in-hand with police to fight the use and trade in drugs in their areas,” said Col Mbele. The man was charged for possession and dealing in drugs. The suspect appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 6 August.
Meanwhile, a sting operation conducted by police officers from the Provincial Drug and Firearm Unit in the Durban CBD led to the arrest of a suspect for possession of drugs, on Tuesday. Police spokesperson, Captain Nqobile Gwala said police were following up on intelligence received about a man whom was in possession of drugs and added: “The team proceeded to a flat on Gillespie Street and a sting operation was put in place. The 31-year-old suspect was found in possession of 74, 2 grams of methcathinone and 171, 8 grams of cocaine powder. He was placed under arrest for possession of drugs. The street value of the recovered drugs is estimated at R87, 000.” The suspect is scheduled to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court soon.
