A 26-year-old man was arrested for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition as well as possession of and dealing in drugs following a crime prevention operation on the M13 recently.
Police Spokesperson, Colonel Thembeka Mbele, said police officers from Westville SAPS were patrolling the M13 when they spotted a vehicle that was driving recklessly. “Upon stopping and searching the vehicle, a firearm, two hundred rounds of ammunition and drugs were found in the vehicle. The man was immediately arrested and taken to the Westville Police Station for processing,” said Col Mbele. The suspect appeared in court on Monday, facing unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition as well as possession and dealing in drugs charges. “He was further charged under the Disaster Management Act for failing to be confined after curfew,” said Col Mbele.
