Football fever is set to grip Durban this weekend as the eThekwini Municipality prepares to host a free public viewing experience for the highly anticipated 2026 MTN8 final between Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns.
The City will host a Public Viewing Area (PVA) at the Bay of Plenty on Durban’s beachfront on Saturday, 10 October, giving thousands of football supporters an opportunity to watch the showdown together in a vibrant, family-friendly setting. The venue is expected to accommodate up to 5 000 spectators, with gates opening at 12pm ahead of the 6pm kick-off. Entry will be free, while the site is scheduled to close at 10pm.
In addition to the action on the pitch, supporters can expect a full programme of live entertainment throughout the day. The line-up includes DJ Happygal, DJ Cyndo, DJ Q, Feza, Jumbo, Cebza and Ntencane. eThekwini Municipality’s Director of Commercial Sports, Dr Zakhi Mkhize, said the Public Viewing Area was aimed at allowing football fans to share in the atmosphere surrounding one of the country’s major sporting fixtures.
“The MTN8 Final is an exciting occasion for football fans, and we want supporters to experience the energy and excitement of this major sporting event in a safe and welcoming environment.
The Public Viewing Area at the Bay of Plenty will provide an opportunity for fans to come together, enjoy the match, and experience live entertainment in a vibrant setting,” said Mkhize.
The City has encouraged supporters planning to attend to arrive early and to comply with instructions from event officials and security personnel to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.
