Learners battle it out in netball tourney

St Henry’s netball team

St Henry’s Marist College hosted its inaugural Under-15 netball tournament on Saturday, 8 May.

The tournament consisted of teams in each pool. The participating schools in Pool A were from all over Durban including Our Lady of Fatima, Northlands Girls’ High School, Durban Girls’ College, Canaan College and Gelofte High School. In Pool B it was St Henry’s Marist College, Durban Girls’ High School, Kingsway High School, Danville Girls’ High School and Maris Stella. In the final matches St Henry’s played against Our Lady of Fatima just after beating Durban Girls’ College in the Semi-finals. St Henry’s were victorious in the finals with a final score of 12-8.

Kerry-Anne Francis of St Henry’s said the final was filled with tons of excellent play. “We congratulate the team members on their superb play, not losing a match all day. We are so proud of them all,” said Francis. She added that Jenna Thompson from Our Lady of Fatima was named player of the tournament and an “All stars” team was also selected from the players. These players stood out in their respective positions. The team was made up as follows: Goalkeeper – Liyema Peter (Danville Girls’ High School); Goal Defence – Zama Zwane (St Henry’s Marist College); Wing Defence – Keera Keera Craze (Danville); Centre – Megan Murray (Gelofte); Wing Attack – Grace Daly (Durban Girls’ College) and Goal Attack – Alwande Gasa (St Henry’s Marist College).
