The exciting and hotly contested blind cricket competition is back again, and this year’s host province, KwaZulu-Natal will be welcoming the best visually impaired cricketers from all around South Africa to Durban.
This tournament marks the fifth addition of the Blind Cricket South Africa (BCSA) T20 National Tournament which kicks off on October 2 and runs through the round robin phase, semi-finals, and final which will then be followed by a prize giving ceremony scheduled for 6 October. Nine provincial blind cricket teams are expected to participate in this year’s tournament. These teams include: Border Lions, Boland, Free State, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo Novus, Northerns, North West who are taking part in the tournament for the first time, Western Province and defending champions Central Gauteng Lions. Ndu Nyawose of the BCSA’s communications department said spectators old and new to blind cricket will be able to connect and follow all the action with live commentary and live streaming of every match of the tournament on the Pitchvision Youtube channel (TBC) and on Pitchvision.
Entry is free for all spectators at every match venue in Durban throughout the tournament. Nyawose said: “With between six to eight T20 matches a day, the intensity and excitement will be at an all time high for this special festival of cricket. As if the tournament itself does not provide enough motivation for players to perform already, a South African blind cricket national team training camp will be held after the tournament as the Blind Proteas prepare for the T20 Blind Cricket World Cup in December in India.” He said the significant support from the KZN Department of Sport Arts and Culture, Hollywoodbets, KwaZulu-Natal Cricket union, eThekwini Municipality, Cricket South Africa, KZN sports Confederation, University of KwaZulu-Natal, eThekwini Disability Sports Forum any other organisations for this year’s event shows the gaining interest and standard of the BCSA T20 National Tournament and South African blind cricket as a whole.
