KwaZulu-Natal police leadership is expected to address growing public concerns around planned protest action and anti-foreigner marches during a media briefing in Durban on Friday afternoon.

The briefing, which will be led by the Acting Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in KwaZulu-Natal, Phumelele Makoba, comes amid heightened tension ahead of a planned protest by the All Truck Drivers Forum (ATDF) scheduled for Saturday, 30 May 2026.

Police said the briefing will focus on stability concerns across the province, including the anticipated strike, march and protest action linked to truck drivers. Authorities are also expected to address ongoing marches taking place in different parts of KwaZulu-Natal which have been associated with anti-foreigner sentiments.

The SAPS media engagement is scheduled to take place at the South African Police Service headquarters on Bram Fischer Road in Durban at 2pm.

The planned address comes as communities and businesses remain on high alert over fears of possible disruptions on major transport routes and public spaces during the protest action.

Police are expected to outline security and operational plans aimed at maintaining law and order while ensuring that lawful protest action does not escalate into violence or intimidation.

KwaZulu-Natal has in recent years experienced several demonstrations linked to the trucking industry, with some incidents resulting in tension on key freight corridors.
SAPS spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said members of the media have been invited to attend the briefing where police leadership will provide clarity on the current situation in the province.
