Accused double murder suspect Wasim Kudoos changed his legal representation during a court appearance on Thursday, as his case now awaits a decision from the Regional Court following the completion of investigations.

In court, Advocate Ngcobo stood in for Mr Pillay, the attorney of record, who has since withdrawn from the matter. It is understood that a new private attorney is expected to come on board to take over Kudoos’s defence.

The State confirmed that investigations into the case have been finalised, and the matter has been referred to the Regional Court. It is scheduled for 26 June, when a decision will be made on how the case will proceed.

This development follows an earlier ruling by the Chatsworth Magistrate’s Court, where Kudoos (33) was denied bail after failing to prove exceptional circumstances that would justify his release.

Magistrate Chiliza previously cited the seriousness of the charges and the strength of the State’s case, which includes ballistic evidence, video analysis and witness statements linking Kudoos to the crimes.

Kudoos faces charges relating to the fatal shootings of two men on the same day in October — one at a barbershop in Bayview and another at a home in Mobeni Heights.

He remains in custody as the matter progresses, with the Regional Court expected to determine the next steps in the case in June.
