Heroin-addicted mother threatens to kill seven-year-old daughter

A disturbing incident occurred in Amoutana on Saturday, 25 January, where a woman addicted to heroin threatened to murder her seven-year-old daughter. The Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) operations centre received a call for assistance from a resident in the area.

The caller informed the controller on duty that the enraged woman was attempting to forcefully remove the child, who was in the care of her 60-year-old grandmother. Reaction officers were immediately dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, it was established that the woman had fled the scene. Her mother informed Rusa members that her daughter is a heroin addict and was suspected of being under the influence of narcotics and alcohol during the incident.

RUSA spokesperson Prem Balram said: “The woman attempted to grab the child from her grandmother’s arms in a fit of anger. During the scuffle, she stated that she intended on killing the minor. She did not provide a reason for her intentions. The woman fled after she was informed that Rusa had been contacted for assistance. Reaction officers conducted an extensive search for the woman, but were unsuccessful in locating her.”
