The world’s oldest known Nile crocodile in captivity, Henry, of the Crocworld Conservation Centre, is officially 121 years old.

He celebrated the major milestone on Thursday, 16 December, surrounded by his appropriately distanced friends and family. Henry is one of many crocodiles at the centre, but certainly one of the biggest at a whopping five metres long and weighing in at 500kg.

He currently resides with six female co-habitants and has fathered more than 10 000 offspring during his time at Crocworld.

“Henry has been a resident at Crocworld since 1985 when he was already an impressive 85 years of age, His birthday is always such a wonderful occasion; a great excuse for everyone to get down to Crocworld to meet the animals, indulge in one of Fish Eagle Café’s specially baked chocolate cupcakes with fudge icing and enjoy the fantastic holiday activities on offer,” said Crocworld manager, James Wittstock.
