A Phoenix grandmother and her granddaughter suffered a violent ordeal when they were assaulted by three intruders who broke into their Woodview residence, on Friday afternoon, and fled with various items including an exorbitant amount of jewellery.
Communications officer at Phoenix SAPS, Captain L Naidoo, said: “The complainant was in the company of her granddaughter at her place of residence and both were lying in her bed when the elder woman heard noises from the other room. She proceeded to the main lounge door. As she opened the door, three unknown men entered the house and one grabbed her by the neck. They demanded jewellery and cash. The suspects assaulted the grandmother and the granddaughter by slapping them. Both victims were bound with shoe laces. The suspects helped themselves to an assortment of jewellery, old coins valued at R20,000 and two laptops.”
Phoenix Community Police Forum chairperson, Umesh Singh, said: “These criminals are brazen and ruthless. They are ready to strike out at any individual who stands in their path during their crime spree. It is sad that community members are confronted with such abuse at the hands of criminals. We trust police will catch these perpetrators and they will face the long arm of the law.”
A house robbery case is under investigation.
