In celebration of Women’s Month, female Metro Police officers have taken the lead in a powerful initiative to create safer communities, launching an awareness campaign at Nilgiri Secondary School.
The campaign, aimed at educating and empowering young people, was rolled out in partnership with key stakeholders including the Road Traffic Inspectorate, the City’s Security Management Directorate, the Fire Services Directorate, and other law enforcement agencies.
Learners and educators at Nilgiri Secondary School welcomed the initiative, which tackled critical issues such as personal safety, gender-based violence, and the importance of reporting crime. Officers engaged learners in open discussions, practical demonstrations, and motivational talks that encouraged vigilance and community responsibility.
The presence of female officers at the forefront of the campaign served as an inspiring reminder of the crucial role women play in protecting communities and leading change. Their visibility and leadership helped strengthen trust between law enforcement and the youth, particularly young girls who were able to see strong role models in uniform.
Officials believe the campaign will have a lasting impact, fostering a culture of safety and resilience within schools and surrounding communities. With continued support from the City’s law enforcement arms, the awareness drive is expected to expand to other schools across the region, ensuring more young people are equipped with the knowledge and confidence to stay safe and take a stand against violence.
