Non-profit organisation The Seed Fund has been selected as one of the beneficiaries of the Sharks Foundation’s Tries for Tummies programme – an inspiring initiative by the Durban-based rugby franchise aimed at tackling hunger and child malnutrition.
The Tries for Tummies campaign, which runs throughout the 2025/26 rugby season, transforms every try scored by the Sharks into meals for children in need. Each try will now feed 3,000 children, with that number doubled to 6,000 meals per try during the team’s match against Ulster Rugby in celebration of World Hunger Week.
According to Charlene Steytler, the ECD Principal at The Seed Fund, their organisation was chosen for its dedicated work in improving food security and child nutrition in Malacca. She said: “The selection focused on local organisations making a real impact, especially those whose work aligns with the campaign’s goal of fighting hunger and caring for children. We feel honoured to have been recognised among so many deserving organisations making a difference every day.”

She added that for The Seed Fund, the initiative represents more than just meals – it embodies compassion, community, and hope.
“The meals from this campaign will make such a huge difference in our community. Many of the families we support struggle with food insecurity, so having access to regular, nutritious meals takes a big weight off their shoulders. It means children can go to school with full tummies, concentrate better, and simply be kids — laughing, learning, and playing without the constant worry of hunger.”
Through this partnership, both The Seed Fund and the Sharks Foundation are proving that teamwork off the field can be just as powerful as the game itself, scoring wins that truly matter.
