A grim discovery was made on Thursday, 23 October, when the body of an unidentified man was found hanging from a tree in the mangroves along Riverside Road.
According to Andreas Matios from the Marshall Security Community Support Team, the body was first spotted by a member of the public. He said: “This morning, Marshall Security Emergency Dispatch Centre received a report from a WhatsApp group that a member of the public had spotted what seemed like a body hanging in a tree.”

Emergency services, including Marshall Security, Metro Search and Rescue, and the SAPS Search and Rescue Unit, responded to the scene. Upon arrival, they confirmed the presence of the deceased male.
“The cause of death will be determined by a forensic investigation that will be conducted by the forensic pathologists.”
At this stage, authorities have stated that no foul play is suspected. Investigations are ongoing, and police are appealing to anyone who may have information that could assist in identifying the deceased to come forward.
