Community leaders in Trenance Park held a day of appreciation for women in their community to mark the end of Women’s Month.
The event was hosted in partnership with the non profit organisation, Little Stars and Jafs. Women across the Trenance Park occupied the Acacia Primary School Hall where they were treated to a day of fun and motivated to take better care of themselves and not tolerated any form of abuse.
The event hosted by Fazila Ismail Sayed and Dravina Ramai included inspirational talks from members of the SAPS and entertainment. Ramai said the women who attended were given butter lettuce and red lettuce seedlings as a token of appreciation, which is meant to symbolise growth and nurturing.
Ramai said: “Women are the foundation of any home, society or community. We believe that every single woman is special. In honour of them we held a little event for any and every women who wanted to attend, since we believe that as a woman we can carry so many titles. Be it mum, daughter, sister, friend or colleague but still feel alone.”
Ramai said at least 50 ladies from all walks of life attended the event and walked away with valuable information as well as a sense of pride. She said: “Our guest speakers spoke about physical, mental, and emotional health as well as women empowerment and basic wellness.”
Guest speaker, Rachel Wilkin said she was honoured to have been included in the programme. She said: “As women, we often find ourselves torn in different directions to suit the various roles we play in society. As we grow and transition, it rarely gets easier unless we take time to nurture ourselves physically and mentally. My message to our women is that when we get up, dress up and show up to face each day’s challenges, we must not leave ourselves behind. As the saying goes, you cannot pour from an empty cup and that is what happens when we fail to replenish ourselves. I am gratified to see women in our communities stepping out to uplift and support each other. Just knowing that someone else cares is enough to stay strong and soldier on.”
The evening concluded with a delicious meal and entertainment performed by the young ladies from the community.
