In the lead-up to eThekwini Environmental Week, Ward 26 DA PR Councillor, Sharmaine Sewshanker hosted a beach clean-up at North Beach on Wednesday, 28 May, joined by volunteers from the Durban South Constituency. The initiative aimed to raise awareness about environmental responsibility and marine pollution.
“We wanted to lead by example.Keeping our beaches clean is a shared responsibility, and I’m grateful to everyone who came out to support this important cause,” said Sewshanker.
Andiswa Dlamini of Green Corridors said that eThekwini Enviro Week, started on Sunday, 1 June and will continue until Sunday, 8 June with citywide programme led by Green Corridors and Environmental Education and Public Awareness Network (EEPAN ), in partnership with local conservation and environmental organisations. It aims to connect communities with nature, promote sustainability, and celebrate Durban’s natural heritage.

“More than 40 events are planned, including beach clean-ups, guided nature walks, compost-making workshops, food gardening demonstrations, and community discussions.This is a week for everyone—families, schools, civic groups, and businesses Whether you’re cleaning beaches, hiking, or learning about sustainability, there’s something for you.”
