Each One Reach 1.Org, which has been serving the communities of Phoenix, Redhill and surrounding areas since 2012, is looking for young people to join their team of dedicated volunteers.
The founder of the organisation, Dr Moodley-Govender, a medical scientist by qualification, resigned from her post to sow back what was sown into her by her community of family, mentors, educators, lecturers and church leaders. She said: “We are currently looking to grow our team of young leaders because we believe that if the youth unites, great things happen. We encourage the youth to come volunteer with us so that we can transform our communities together.”
She said: “Built from the inside out is a programme offered by Each One Reach 1, to everyday citizens who wish to do more with whatever they have in their hands. We train them in volunteerism and family project development. You are most welcome to continue to serve within our platforms or create your own or partner with other organisations. This programme is also offered to the youth, prefects and RCLs at high school and is tailored around career, work, tertiary or entrepreneurship readiness. If you have any skill you would like to share, come tutor or coach with us.”
Joshua Haripersadh, who joined Each One Reach 1 at the beginning of 2019 with a passion for mentoring the youth and young adults, said he wanted to uplift the community and empower those in need. He said having several years of experience as a youth leader, in a church environment, I wanted to use that knowledge to help those in more underprivileged communities.
“In the life of a teenager, without any true sense of direction or purpose, the guidance of a role model can have a significant impact on their development into adulthood. My hope was to be a reliable mentor for underprivileged youth and to help them grow mentally, emotionally and socially through the small measure of wisdom I have to offer. In these past three years, Each One Reach 1 has been a fantastic avenue through which I have truly been able to make a difference in the lives of those around me – I can’t wait to see what comes next,” added Haripersadh.
Another youth leader, Kimera Pillay said: “Helping teenagers has always been a passion of mine and when the opportunity came about to join Each One Reach One a year ago, I felt privileged to offer my services and time. One of the organisation’s main focus is educating the youth of South Africa which aligns with my core belief that education is a powerful tool. I am so honoured to be a part of something this great.”
