Breakwaters and Stillwaters angling club news

The season 2021/2022 was rewarding for both Breakwaters and Stillwaters angling clubs. Breakwaters were crowned triple champions for the fourth time, winning the Angling Professional League titles of the Mohamed Midas League, AA Coaches Knock Out Trophy and AA Coaches Grand Challenge.

Breakwaters AC were previously crowned triple champions winning the titles in 2008/9, 2013/2014, 2020/2021 and 2021/2022. Their sister club, Stillwaters Angling, reached the semi-finals. It was also a season where the club presented members with their dashing new outfits, buffs and caps.

At the recent annual general meeting of the club, the members were recognised for their outstanding achievements where the title holders were crowned in the various categories. The stand-out angler for the past season was Monty Slabbert (BAC) who was crowned “Angler of the Year” for both the club and APL, also bagging the titles of “Most Fish Caught”; “Highest Point Scorer”; “Knock Out Champion” and “League Champion”.

Yusuf Amedjee, who joined BAC this season, made his mark and received the trophies for Heaviest Scaled Fish for a carp of 4.200kg and Grand Challenge Champion. Other title holders include Sikander Amod (BAC) for “Heaviest Non-scaled” (a barbel of 7.365kg); Rishlyn Bhagaloo (SAC) received “Heaviest Ee”l and “Junior Angler of the Year”; Preetham Birbal (BAC) received “Social Outing Champion” in the scaled category; Harold Verwey (SAC) received “Social Outing Champion” for the non-scaled category; Yudveer Naransamy (BAC) received “Internal Knock Out Singles Champion”, Mark Ince and Mohsin Tadwala (SAC) received “Internal Knock Out Doubles Champion”; Veruschka Boodhoo (SAC) received “Lady Angler of the Year”; Ronnie Rampersadh (BAC) received “Senior Angler of the Year” and Mark Ince of Stillwaters AC received “Angler of the Year”.

In addition to receiving the floating and outright trophies, 47 successful anglers were also awarded with prizes for their efforts as positional awards. Congratulations to all the recipients of awards and prizes.

The Cabinet for the 2022/2023 Season was elected as follows: Matthew Shunmugam (President); Monty Slabbert (Vice-president); Nadir Chrisenduth (Secretary); Sikander Amod (Record Clerk); Kidd Rampersadh (Treasurer); Ronnie Rampersadh (PRO); AJ Singh (Captain) and Wayne Oosthuizen (Vice-captain).

The Management Committee of Stillwaters AC shall consist of Willie Smith (Manager/Captain); Eric De Bruycker (Vice-captain) and Harold Verwey (Record Clerk).

The Executive Committee expresses its appreciation for the efforts and sacrifices made by the members for attending the various competitions and supporting the activities of the club and APL. Another exciting season lies ahead as many members try to win the accolades on offer at club and APL level. The first league will be held on 14 August at Sandford.
