A dog bite incident turned violent between neighbours in Trenance Park on Sunday, 13 July. Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) were called to Softwood Crescent in Trenance Park, where they found a man bleeding from injuries to his hands, face, legs, and head.

According to the injured man, he was walking to a nearby tuck shop when his neighbour’s dog escaped through an open driveway gate and attacked him. He alleged that the dog’s owner then assaulted him. The man returned to his residence, informed his brothers about the incident, and they armed themselves with knives before proceeding to the neighbour’s property to confront him.

The victim of the alleged dog attack suffered injuries to his hands, legs and head.

However, the dog’s owner provided a different account of events. “The dog owner informed reaction officers that his bull terrier cross did flee onto the road, but he managed to recall it before it attacked his neighbour. His neighbour was upset and returned to his property with his siblings. They threatened to assault him and allegedly began shaking the driveway gate, de-railing it in the process. His dog managed to escape and began attacking one of the brothers,” said Prem Balram, Rusa spokesperson.

Neither version of events could be immediately confirmed. The injured man opted to seek medical attention privately, and neither party wished to register a criminal case at the time.
