Unity and community spirit were on full display as the WeFeedSA Greenwood Park Team, Marshall Security Clean Green Team, and Greenwood Park CPF Subforum 2, together with its Youth Desk, joined forces for a two-day clean-up at the Greenwood Park Police Station on Tuesday, 31 March, and Wednesday, 1 April.
The initiative was sparked by a request from Station Commander, Colonel Mbongeni Khalishwayo, who reached out to the community for assistance. According to CPF Chairperson Danusha Makan-Maharaj, the call for help was met with enthusiasm and a shared commitment to improving the environment at the station.
She said: “We always encourage residents to open cases and would like them to have a pleasant experience when visiting the station. Creating a clean and welcoming space is an important part of building trust between the community and law enforcement.”
Over the two days, volunteers worked tirelessly to clean and restore the station grounds, demonstrating the power of collaboration between community organisations and local stakeholders.

While pleased with the success of the clean-up, Makan-Maharaj emphasised the importance of sustainability. She suggested that the station consider implementing a long-term maintenance programme focused on upliftment, upgrades, and beautification, rather than relying solely on periodic clean-up efforts.
“The collaboration between SAPS members and our team demonstrates that we can foster a sense of self-pride that ensures everyone is invested in maintaining a pleasant environment, whether visiting the station or working there,” she said.
Initially, the plan did not include participation from SAPS members. However, Makan-Maharaj expressed her surprise and appreciation when officers stepped forward to join the effort.
“Their involvement made a significant difference,” she noted. “It showed true commitment and strengthened the partnership between the police and the community.”
The clean-up not only revitalised the police station but also reinforced the importance of unity, cooperation, and shared responsibility in building safer and more welcoming public spaces.
