The City of Durban and its surrounding communities are enveloped in sorrow as they mourn the recent loss of cherished individuals—people who left an indelible mark through their contributions to business, sports, culture, and public life.
Among those mourned is Rekha Ramjogi, a respected Durban North businesswoman who bravely battled cancer until her passing from a brain tumour. A dedicated trustee of the Sivananda World Peace Foundation, Rekha’s life was defined by compassion, grace, and an unwavering commitment to service. The Foundation paid tribute to her as a guiding light whose presence inspired peace and upliftment. The Global Organisation of People of Indian Origin (GOPIO) South Africa chapter also recognised her passionate advocacy for the Indian diaspora.
Prince Ishwar Ramlutchman Mabheka Zulu, president of the Sivananda World Peace Foundation, expressed heartfelt condolences: “Rekha Ramjogi leaves behind a legacy of kindness and dedication that touched countless lives. We extend our deepest sympathies to Jaya Ramjogi and the entire family. May her soul rest in eternal peace. Om Shanti.”
Rekha was also a founder and director of Unibrands (Pty) Limited, known as The Gatekeeper creative brand agency, where she played a pivotal role in projects such as Gopio International’s inaugural business convention in Durban in 2018. She was assisted in the business by her husband, Jaya Ramjogi, staffer at Vodacom. At a recent event for a charity walk for cancer survivors, she disclosed that she chose the name of her company as The Gatekeeper to “protect the image and brand” of her clients.
