Malvern SAPS, together with the Malvern Community Policing Forum (MCPF) hosted a basic firefighting course presented by members of the Queensburgh Fire Station at the Escombe Football Club, recently.
The informative session was attended by the local ward councillor, Chris Van Der Berg and was aimed at empowering the Malvern community patrollers with the necessary skills that they might need when reacting to a situation. As most of the time the CPF is among the first responders to a scene of a fire. Responding to an active scenes as patrollers, the residents were taught how to react in the case of a building on fire, veld fire, a car on fire and were also educated on how to help people who may be trapped in a burning building. A basic CPR course was also presented and residents were taught about putting personal safety first before responding to the various distress calls they receive from the community via neighbourhood watch groups.
