City’s new acquisition tackles uMhlanga flooding

The eThekwini Municipality has approved the acquisition of Erf 2256 and Erf 2420 in a move aimed at addressing stormwater infrastructure challenges and flooding in uMhlanga.
The decision was taken during a recent council meeting and received positive support from Ward 35 councillor Bradley Singh.

Councillor Singh thanked the municipality for the intervention. He said: “We would like to thank the municipality for this acquisition. By doing this, the homes on Herrwood Drive will not be flooded.”

Sandringham Court, uMhlanga Ridge, set to benefit from Erf 2256 and Erf 2420 acquisitions.

In response, the city said: “To address flooding risks and drainage capacity constraints downstream of Herrwood Drive, Council approved the acquisition of Erf 2256 (7 Sandringham Court) in Ward 35. The site will accommodate a stormwater attenuation facility designed to manage peak rainfall flows.

“In addition, a 66m² sewer and drainage servitude will be registered over Erf 2420 (9 Sandringham Court). All land acquisition processes will proceed in accordance with applicable constitutional and statutory frameworks,” the city said.
