It was all smiles and happiness at a recent tea party held at the Khanya Hospice in celebration of Women’s Day.
The celebrations for their nursing staff were received with glee and appreciation by hospice CEO, Neil McDonald, who said they needed some “de-stressing and de-briefing time”.
“We work in an environment with lots of emotional stress and we also feel it. The staff are real people with real emotions. We often cry with people, we also feel sad for their loss or what has happened to them.” McDonald said the celebrations were held after their IDT meeting. “We organised some time out for the staff before going out to their patients. Often a church group, or family members or a group of people come and spoil our staff with some eats, tea, cake and a gift. This is a wonderful way to make the staff feel that they are still needed and doing a great job,” he said.
