Bus driver shot execution style, passengers robbed in Parlock bus hold-up

Passengers, bystanders and law enforcement officers at the scene of the deadly shooting in Parlock

A bus driver was allegedly robbed of his cellphone and gunned down in cold blood by an armed gang masquerading as passengers, who boarded the bus and proceeded to rob passengers before fleeing, at the intersection of the M21 and Joyce Road in Parlock, this morning.

KZN VIP spokesperson, Gareth Naidoo, said: “At approximately 10h20, the KZN VIP Control Room received reports of a shooting at the intersection of the M21 / Joyce Road, Parlock. Immediately KZN VIP Tactical Units and Response Teams were dispatched.Upon arrival, it was noticed that SAPS had cordoned of the crime scene and emergency services were on scene. Upon further investigation, KZN VIP Tactical Response Units made contact with members on scene and it was established that five suspects armed with firearms boarded the bus which was occupied by at least 30/35 passengers.” “It is believed that the suspects robbed passengers of their belongings. The bus then stopped at the intersection where the suspects shot the bus driver and fled the scene,” added Naidoo.

Medi Response paramedics also responded to the shooting incident and spokesperson Leon Fourie said: “A bus driver was shot in the head. On arrival of paramedics, the man showed no signs of life and was declared dead on scene. It is alleged that a man boarded the bus, stole the driver’s cellphone and then shot the man before fleeing the scene. The South African police will investigate further.”

Police spokesperson, Colonel Thembeka Mbele said: “It is alleged that this morning at 10:00, five armed men who posed as passengers shot a 43-year-old bus driver and robbed the passengers of their belongings. The driver sustained a gunshot wound on the head and was confirmed dead at the scene. Charges of murder and robbery were opened in Newlands East SAPS for investigation.”
