The 1000 Hills Community Helpers held a Spring Day event filled with fun activities and a photoshoot for children from rural areas. The children at Ikhaya Lo Thando were treated with delicious treats and got to make creative colour displays.
The organisation’s accounts manager, Shannen Harte said that it was a beautiful day for children.
“The children are part of the organisation’s programmes aimed at making education fun for a brighter future.
We had the most awesome Spring Day at Ikhaya Lo Thando. Each class dressed up in their unique spring colours. We run a fully operational school and follow the national syllabus to give our children the best possible education by laying a solid foundation for their future. We also do many fun activities with the children including sports days. Our goal is to make learning fun by encouraging our children to see school in a positive light and motivating them to strive for greater things. We have an intake of up to 350 children per year, ranging from our creche to Grade R,” said Harte.
Harte said that with the growing waiting list for placements in their school each year and the desperate need of the community, the decision was made to build a new Grade R classroom.
“The classroom caters for 60 new children whom we can provide for in one of the most important foundation phases of their lives. With the addition of the new classroom, we now have 410 children in our school. With the new addition we have also incurred a big expense in all that goes with building a new classroom, so in an effort to make our new project worthwhile, we would like to ask each and every person to contribute in a small way to help us pay-off and maintain this classroom,” said Harte.
