Voters out to vote last week

The ANC has reclaimed Ward 110 from the DA in the hotly contested by-elections held last week.

The DA lost the by-elections after Pete Graham left the party to join Herman Mashaba’s ActionSA last year. The newly elected Ward 110 councillor, Bongumusa Dludla said their main focus as the party is to improve the service delivery in the ward. “Our next step is to build more houses and further build two schools within the area. And with that being said we will also focus on the tenants who are currently facing issues in the Avoca Hills flats and find constructive ways to assist them. I will also look at ways to improve the unemployment rate in the ward.”

DA Ward 36 councillor, Shontel de Boer, who worked tirelessly to regain the ward for the party, told The Durban North News that she can’t say the outcome was not expected. “The previous councillor didn’t do too much ground work and people became apathetic towards the party. The voter turnout was disappointing but we will continue to assist our residents as best we can. We gave it our best and the majority vote won,” said de Boer. De Boer congratulated Councillor Dludla for being elected as Ward 110 councillor. The ANC said it was humbled by the continued confidence voters showed the party in the by-elections. The party said they have faith in their newly elected councillors that they will implement programmes that will speak to challenges that were raised by the communities during the campaign, “as they have committed themselves to address them and do even more in speeding up service delivery in their respective wards,”the party said.

“The victory is an indication of faith our people have in the ANC and this can be only attributed to the work of the ANC, and unwavering obligation to serving the needs of our people. We remain committed to our mandate of making people’s lives better,’’ said Nhlakanipho Ntombela, ANC provincial spokesperson. For any service delivery issues in Ward 110, which covers Sunningdale, Glen Hills, Glen Anil, Mount Moria and Avoca Hills, contact Councillor Dludla on 073-6240-406.
