It was a heated battle as Chelsea Preparatory School and Virginia Preparatory School once again met on the hockey field to reignite an old friendly rivalry.
Both Durban North sides had their school pride to fight for as the under 10, 11 and 13 boys and girls teams went head-to-head in a series of matches that had all the spectators on the edge of their seats. Chelsea Prep and Virginia Prep share a solid relationship on the field across many sporting disciplines and both play a high standard of hockey at their fixture.
Dressed in their school colours, they young players took to the turf in a friendly match in what was the most anticipated fixture of the season. In the girls U10 category, the teams seemed evenly matched with Virginia Prep edging out Chelsea Prep by claiming 3 out 5 games.
There were only three matches played by the U11s which saw Chelsea come out on top, claiming 3 for 3 with Virginia putting up a good fight as two of the clashes had narrow finishes. The U13 Chelsea girls also put their Virginia counterparts on the back-foot, with two victories in four matches, one draw and a loss.
The Chelsea team also managed to put up a brick wall in the boys matches. Their U10 team won 3 of their five matches, drew 1 and lost the other. Their U11 side also showed dominance on the turf, winning 3 match ups and conceding 1. The U13s however met their match in a well prepared Virginia side that claimed two 2-0 victories, held Chelsea Prep to a goal-less draw and conceded a 5-0 loss.
