Tongaat youth leader and community activist, Daniel Alick is vying for the prestigious title of Mr South of the Equator 2022 and is garnering support from the community to secure the crown.
With the voting process ending on 29 September, contestants are doing everything they can to secure the public’s vote. The crowning of both Mr and Miss South of the Equator will be held on 10 December.
Alick, who is well known in the community, has assisted many people in need across Tongaat. From infants without basic necessities to senior citizens in need of food.
“The purpose of the competition is not just being a beauty pageant but rather a platform for individuals to become ambassadors and role models of their communities. I would like to thank the community of Tongaat for standing by me during the voting process and I believe this opportunity will not just be about personal growth but recognition of the society I come from,” Alick said.
Mr and Miss South of the Equator is managed by Shaun Stander, owner of Mobile Model Management and former Mr Africa, Mr South Africa 2019 1st Prince Winner and Mr South Africa People’s Choice Winner. Stander said the competition is open to males and females from three years old to adults and is split between 10 age categories.
“Each year one of the winners in a selected category will get to select an approved charity of their choice to which a donation from the proceeds will be made and handed to said charity by that contestant. Last year’s charity recipient was the Childhood Cancer Foundation South Africa,” said Stander.
Entries opened in August where contestants submitted photographs from which a panel of judges selected the quarter finalist. Public voting for the quarter finalists was opened in September and closes on 29 September where after the semi-finalists will be announced.
Semi-finalists will walk in front of a panel of judges to compete for a spot at the Gala finals which will be held at Blue Waters hotel on 10 December. For more information on the voting process please contact Daniel on 084 626 9758.
